The Flame of Faith | David Anwar

All things are possible for one who believes." Mark 9:23

It was early morning when my mother’s urgent voice rang out: “Get up! Take your brother to the hospital; he’s been suffering from cholera since last night.” Rubbing my eyes, I shook off sleep and rose from bed. I grabbed the bike keys and helped my brother toward the door. Just then, my father called, “Son, pick up my insulin too; it’s finished.” I asked, Dad, have you taken your dose today?” “Yes, I have,” he replied. “I’ll get it by evening,” I promised confidently. But the truth was, my pockets were empty—not a single rupee for my brother’s medicine, my father’s insulin, or the repair of my bike’s worn-out piston.

With faith as my strength, I helped my brother onto the bike and headed to the hospital. I didn’t know where the money would come from, but I believed it would. At the hospital, the doctor examined my brother and handed me a prescription. I slipped it into my pocket and, with no money to buy the medicines, returned home instead of going to the pharmacy. When I arrived, I found the pastor visiting. He began to pray, and a deep sense of peace washed over the room. God’s presence was undeniable; it felt as though He stood right beside me. In my heart, I prayed, “O God! My brother’s medicine, my father’s insulin, and the bike repair—all are in Your hands. Fulfill Your promise!”

When the prayer ended, my heart was calm and assured. As I walked the pastor to the door, he paused and extended his closed fist. “Take this money,” he said. “God told me to give you five thousand rupees.” My heart raced. Five thousand? That was enough for the medicine and insulin! Then he added, “Last Sunday, God told me to give you five thousand, but I hesitated. Today, He told me to give you that five thousand plus another five thousand—ten thousand in total.” He placed ten thousand rupees in my hand and left.

I stood there, clutching the money, my heart overflowing with gratitude to God. He not only answered my prayer but provided more than I asked. My brother’s medicine, my father’s insulin, and the bike repair were all covered. That flame of faith ignited a powerful miracle.

Faith isn’t about dwelling on the weight of circumstances. It’s not approaching God with, “If You can do something.” Faith is coming to Him with the certainty that He can do all things. It’s a steadfast trust in the truth of God’s Word and His boundless power.

David didn’t focus on Goliath’s military skill or his formidable weapons, though the Bible describes them in detail. He didn’t measure Goliath’s strength against his own but against God’s infinite power, finding Goliath insignificant in comparison.

“David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, so that the whole world may know that there is a God in Israel.’” (1 Samuel 17:45-46)

David’s assurance of victory came from God’s faithfulness. If you trust in the Lord Almighty and reject doubt, God will grant you the confidence of victory, and your “Goliath” will be defeated.

Prayer:

O Lord Almighty, our Creator and Redeemer, we bow before Your infinite power and mercy. Fortify our faith so that in every trial and against every adversary, we turn to You. Like David, grant us the certainty that You are with us and that no power surpasses Yours. Guide us, fill our hearts with Your Word, and grant us triumph over every Goliath. May Your will be done, and Your name be glorified forever. Amen.
