Beyond the Horizon | David Anwar

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Mark 4:40

My heart pounded with fear, my pulse racing uncontrollably. The weight of my thoughts was crushing. For a fleeting moment, I regretted my decision to try parasailing. As I glanced down at the boat tugging my parachute with a rope, my fear intensified—I was 500 feet above a river, and I couldn’t swim. Heights had always terrified me, yet I chose parasailing to confront that fear. But when I lifted my eyes from the boat to the scene before me, I was captivated. Sunlight streamed through the clouds, casting a radiant glow on the lush green mountains. The serene sky held no trace of traffic’s clamor, no crowd’s noise, no rumble of the train near my home. The gentle breeze in that tranquil air felt enchanting. From above, the river and mountains were a breathtaking sight. As long as I fixated on the boat’s shrinking form below, I missed the splendor of the sunlit peaks. But the moment I embraced the view, my fear dissolved unnoticed, and I could finally savor the beauty of the earth, river, and mountains from the sky.

When we focus solely on the negative circumstances of daily life, we see only fear—the side that saps our courage, unsettles our hearts, and stifles our potential. In doing so, we overlook hope, beauty, and opportunity.

Faith means looking beyond the visible, trusting that God has crafted a better plan for us. This plan is as certain as the sun’s daily rise. Our struggles cannot diminish the truth, power, or majesty of God’s purpose. When Sarah, at 89, laughed at the promise of motherhood—knowing it was medically impossible—God fulfilled His word by granting her a child at 90, proving His power transcends all limitations. Today, fix your gaze on the God of Abraham and Sarah, who holds the strength to fulfill His purpose for you at every twist of life’s journey.

Prayer
O Lord, grant me the courage and wisdom to look beyond my fears and anxieties, finding hope in Your Word’s light. Strengthen my faith to trust in Your perfect plan. Amen.
