Rising from the Shadows | David Anwar

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.” (Romans 8:28)

In the bitter chill of Edinburgh’s nights, in the faint glow of a modest flat, a woman cradled her daughter tightly. Her face was etched with weariness, her eyes clouded with despair, and her heart gripped by a darkness that threatened to engulf her. A single mother, she was shadowed by poverty. Her husband had left, her job had vanished, and money was so scarce that food felt like a distant luxury. In those desolate nights, she battled thoughts of surrender, wondering if her life held any meaning. Was death a kinder fate than such a struggle?

Yet, deep within her, a spark remained. In the quiet corner of a coffee shop, after lulling her daughter to sleep, she poured her soul onto paper. A story, woven in her mind for years—a vision of a world far removed from her stark reality. Was it merely a futile dream? Clutching a fragile hope, she sent her manuscript to publishers. The replies were harsh—her work was deemed unworthy. One, two, three… twelve rejections battered her spirit. Each letter stung, yet she pressed on. Would anyone see the magic in her creation? Would her perseverance ever shine through?

Then, a small publisher took a chance. The world soon realized her story was no ordinary tale. She had crafted a magical universe that would enchant millions. This woman, once bound by poverty and despair, became an inspiration to countless children and adults. Her creation? Harry Potter—a saga that not only transformed her life but wove magic into the world.

The harsh, unrelenting trials of life—endless hardship, scarcity, hunger, and repeated setbacks—can breed a despair that threatens to consume us. Yet, hidden within these struggles is God’s divine purpose. He doesn’t work through our plans but transforms the very circumstances we deem broken into miracles. Your trials are not for your ruin but for your growth, strength, and the revelation of God’s goodness. His goodness manifests in your progress, restoration, dignity, and triumph.

Today, begin seeking God’s goodness in your challenges. His presence will bring peace amid life’s wilderness. Even in the desert’s bitterness, He guides you as a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night.

Prayer

O Lord, You walk with us as a pillar of cloud and fire through every wilderness. Today, we stand before You. In our trials, failures, and moments of despair, grant us the strength to see Your goodness and embrace Your peace. Amen.
